Our name stands for Durability, Accessibility, and Sustainability. And so does our company. Our goal is to help people make sustainable choices by making beautiful and durable products more accessible.

WHY CHOOSE US

In the hands of a skilled craftsman, concrete can be as beautiful as it is durable. We are continually testing and improving our processes to ensure that we offer you the best of both. Concrete countertops are heat and scratch resistant.  They offer versatile design possibilities, indoors and out.  They are full of character.  And – last but definitely not least - they are among the more sustainable countertop options on the market today, made of locally sourced materials that will last a lifetime if well cared for.  While we can’t promise that your concrete won’t get stained or damaged, we can say with confidence that whatever happens to your concrete, there’s almost certainly a way to fix it.  And we’ll be there to help you through it.

WHAT WE STAND FOR.

While we love concrete countertops, our vision for D.A.S. is about more than just our products.  We are on a mission to change the way our society thinks about the materials we use and choose, particularly when it comes to the construction industry – and those it serves.  This includes everyone from those who help design buildings and construct them to those who ultimately live and work in them.

We live in a society where we are encouraged to buy cheap and replace.  Where trends are valued over durability.  Where low-maintenance trumps ease of repair.  These issues extend far beyond countertops, but by helping to drive change in one small, but highly valued piece of our world, we hope that we can change our customers’ approach to far more than just countertops.  We want to help people make sustainable choices.  We want to help people choose sustainability.

And that starts by making sustainable choices ourselves.  From filtering and recycling our polishing water, to minimizing waste and incorporating recycled materials into our mix, we weigh our impact on the environment – in both the short and the long term – in every decision that we make.  Our goal is to ensure that we achieve the best quality product with the least environmental impact, where ‘quality’ is as much about durability and ease of repair, as it is about looks.

OUR HISTORY

D.A.S Concrete Countertops was founded in late 2018 by Yannick and Emma Thériault. Many people ask us how a woodworker and a federal public servant ended up in the business of concrete countertops. As the story goes, it all began with a solution to our own problem. The seeds for D.A.S. were sown back in 2014, when we set out to build our own home on the outskirts of Moncton, New Brunswick.  When it came to choosing our countertops, we encountered firsthand what Yannick had observed from afar in his years as a cabinet maker: that despite the vast array of choice that customers enjoy (or not) when shopping for countertops, there is a substantial gap between low and high-end countertop materials, with few middle ground options.  With three young kids, we practically live in our kitchen, so durability was important to us.  And so was the ability to repair our countertops, as Yannick had seen too many laminate tops be replaced before their time due to heat or water damage.  We wanted something that we liked the look of – something with character - and something that we could afford.   It turned out that this was a hard order to fill.  Add in an appetite for more sustainable materials, which ruled out plastic, and we were out of luck.  But not out of ideas.

There was one material that seemed to fit the bill for us: concrete.  What if, we wondered, we could buy pre-fabricated, polished concrete slabs of standard countertop depth that we could cut to size and install ourselves?  It felt like the perfect solution, but turns out it didn’t exist.  In the end, we poured our own concrete countertops in our backyard and lived with them for several years before launching D.A.S., with a vision to offer what we wanted, but couldn’t find.

While our vision for D.A.S. has evolved to include higher end offerings, such as custom-made countertops, as well as pre-fabricated products, our underlying commitment to making beautiful, durable and sustainable surfaces more accessible remains as concrete as ever.
